The F/T Emerging Artists Program supports the work of younger theatre companies, giving them a platform to perform their work in Tokyo. This is the fourth time it will be held and it received 137 entries from the whole of Asia, with a final selection made of 9 groups/artists from 6 regions (Japan: 4; China: 1; Taiwan: 1; Korea: 1; Singapore: 1; India: 1). The program aims to gather Asian talent and critique of that talent to help cultivate the arts in Asia. To that end it also includes the F/T Award, which is given to the work judged to have the most artistic worth.
This prize is awarded to the company or artist in the program judged to have presented a work with the most creative value for the arts in Asia. The winner is then offered a commission to present something in the F/T Main Program next year. This year's judges are the most diverse they have ever been, hailing from Japan, China and Germany.
