Taiwanese experimental theatre meets Japanese horror cinema
Taipei-based Shinehouse Theatre centers around director Poyuan Chung and was formed in 2006. It has created more than twenty original works and staged many productions in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Macau, dealing with such themes as alienation and anxiety reflecting Taiwan's more and more complex social situations. "A Midsummer Night's Chat" is a collage of various actual experiences and urban legends about disasters and ghosts in Taiwan, revealing human desire and insecurity through ghost stories as conveyed by Japanese horror cinema.
