Summary

Iranian playwright and director Amir Reza Koohestani won a prize at the prestigious International Fadjr Theatre Festival in Iran when he was just 22. Always breaking through the strictures of state censorship and cutting into contemporary taboos, Koohestani returns to Tokyo with a new play inspired by the citizen protest movement against the alleged corruptions in the Iranian presidential election of June, 2009.

Being himself absent studying in London when the events happened, Koohestani went back to Tehran to uncover the traces, seeking to get closer to the truth. The drama is composed of the phone conversations of 6 men and women. On the night of January 8th they are rehearsing Genet's play "The Maids" but their words describing the events that happened the next morning are ridden with lies and secrets. From these fragments of language emerges a vivid portrait of the younger generation in Tehran, frustrated at a repressive society and suspicious of others.
