A timely Tokyo production of this much-discussed play by a Lebanon-born writer

This suspenseful drama follows a brother and sister in search of their family origins after the death of their mother. While clearly influenced by the writer’s own experiences growing up during the Lebanese Civil War, the play’s mystery is also reminiscent of the Greek tragedy “Oedipus Rex”.

First seen at Festival/Tokyo 2012, the acclaimed production returns

Based on Nobel Prize-winner Elfriede Jelinek’s Fukushima-inspired text, this play traverses the world of the living and the dead, portraying the chaos that gripped Japan in the wake of the nuclear disaster through its unique use of musical sounds and language. Originally premiered at F/T12, the opera for our times is now revived at Yokohama.

In search of the heart of absence

The third in artistic director Junnosuke Tada’s series of creations for Kirari Fujimi, this is one of Shuji Terayama’s most famous plays. Thirty years on, it retains its power and Tada will recreate the work as a radical inquiry into society today.

What is further than the Moon?! The theatre!

“Bluebeard’s Castle” is one of Shuji Terayama’s later plays, what he called a “magical musical”. This revival will feature Bluebeard’s seven wives played by actresses from a range of backgrounds, performed as a freak show-like spectacle in an abandoned theatre.
