This annual program of symposia features leading artists, directors and critics gathering to debate theory and praxis in theatre with reference to the F/T13 line-up of Japanese and overseas productions, as well as consider the relationship between theatre and wider society.

"The Future of Theatre"
What is the future of theatre? Who will create it? Now more than ever we must begin a new journey putting ideals and coming narratives into words. Inviting a theorist, dramaturge and artists whose work inquires into the fundamentals of contemporary theatre, this symposium will search for the future of theatre in drama, systems and the relationship with society.

Speakers:
Hans-Thies Lehmann (theatre theorist, critic)
Born in 1944. The leading theatre researcher in the German-speaking world, he is a professor at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt am Main, Germany. His seminal work "Postdramatisches Theater" (1999) has been translated into eighteen languages. While teaching at the University of Giessen he was instrumental in steering the talents of Rimini Protokoll, René Pollesch and more.

Stefanie Carp (dramaturge)
Leading dramaturge in the German-speaking theatre. She has worked as dramaturge at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and the Deutschen Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. She was in charge of theatre for the Wiener Festwochen from 2004-2005, and again from 2007-2013. Her long career has included much work with director Christoph Marthaler.

Born in 1982. A German translator and theatre researcher, as well as researcher at the Arts Council Tokyo. He works in the fields of translation theory and theatre theory research and praxis. His translations of the work of Elfriede Jelinek ("Kein Licht.", "Epilog?", "Rechnitz [Der Würgeengel]" and "Clouds. Home.") were published by Hakusuisha in 2012. It won the 5th Yushi Odashima Play Translation Award. He was also involved with a dramaturge training program at Waseda University in 2013.
