A youth ensemble play searching for the possibilities and essence of helping other people
First written as a graduation production for students on the theatre course at Oberlin University, Oriza Hirata's acclaimed play is now revived for the first time in eight years by Seinendan. Set in the near future, the finances of the Japanese government are on the brink of collapse and it is decided to stop all overseas aid work. The ensemble play examines the possibilities and essence of humanity helping humanity, as seen through the eyes of youth aid workers gathering sadly at their training ground for the last time. The play asks if it is truly possible for us to help other people or be helped by others.
