Helgard HaugRimini Protokoll

Director

Helgard Haug studied at the Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaften (Institute of Applied Theatre Studies) in Giessen, Germany. Since 1996 she has been developing, writing and directing projects which are on the borderline of theatre, documentation, radio play and the fine arts. Major work includes "Call Cutta in a Box", a one-to-one telephone performance that takes place live from a call centre in India, "Breaking News", a "daily news show" with nine protagonists who "re-present" the evening news as messengers from their own respective cultural and linguistic areas on stage and let it take effect there, and "Black Tie", a play about the black hole of origins, the human genetics industry, and the alienation between yourself and your environment. The latter was later presented at TPAM 2011 in Yokohama. She received the Mülheimer Dramatiker Prize in 2007 with her collaborators for "Karl Marx: Capital, Volume One", which was presented later in Tokyo in 2009 and two of her plays have been invited to Theatertreffen in Berlin.
