This is the long-awaited first performance in Japan by The Wooster Group, a pioneer of multi-layered artistic stagings employing technology. They present a nonconformist and unusually simple “interpretation” of a record album of spirituals by the Shakers, who have practiced gender equality since the 18th century and are about to disappear due to their celibacy, at a festival with a focus on sound and music.
