About

An expanding hemisphere...?

Playwright and director Yudai Kamisato's OKAZAKI ART THEATRE creates a unique worldview of dramatic
physicality mixed with ordinary movement, and frank language. Last year he staged his ambitious play "Old Air
Conditioner", themed around China's economic growth, as part of the F/T10 Emerging Artists Program, and featuring
7 performers and an energy-wasting electric appliance.

Now invited to appear as part of the main F/T presentations, this time his new work will, as the title suggests, look at the world of unsettled things, at enigma that human strength cannot combat, at things unknown. What is this
expanding hemisphere? Anger, sadness, fear, joy...One month on from the earthquake and everything was getting
muddled up. This kind of riddle of a hemisphere will make audiences think.

Kamisato bases his work on the belief that theatre is an actors' art and his methodology does not follow a pre-
established harmony, but instead is marked by its emphasis on the presence of the actors on stage and on making
work full of atmosphere and tension. For this new work he has gathered a superb cast all with experience working
for leading dramatists and directors like Shiro Maeda, Daisuke Miura, Hideki Noda and Robert Allan Ackerman.
The creative staff also includes stage designer Itaru Sugiyama, known for his work with chiten and Sample theatre
companies.
