The American hegemony pouring large funds into the production of mass culture, France, whose government’s cultural policy has given rise to the denomination “country of culture”, and Japan, trying to seek it’s own way under the influence of the two nations.

A pre-opening event to the performing arts festival launching from Tokyo, Festival/Tokyo has invited the emerging French writer Frédéric Martel to debate about the possibilities of the cultural systems in the 21st century. His book on the American cultural system“De la Culture en Amerique“, is the starting point for this panel discussion.
*The symposium adds to the publication of the Frédéric Martel’s book in Japanese.
